We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Inpatient Medical Coder/Health Information Management Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in inpatient coding, a thorough understanding of health information management principles, and the ability to work effectively within a complex healthcare environment.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and PCS codes, as well as DRG assignments, for inpatient medical records.
- Review and analyze medical documentation to ensure accurate and complete coding.
- Maintain a high level of coding accuracy and productivity.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.
- Stay current with coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Provide coding education and support to other team members.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Health Information Management functions, policies, and practices in an electronic environment.
- Utilize hospital information systems effectively.
- Demonstrate a high degree of analytical ability.
- Utilize computer hardware and software applications, such as Windows and Microsoft Office Suite.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience.
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification from AHIMA.
- Minimum of 3 years of inpatient coding experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated coding experience with a focus on complex case mix.
- Strong interpersonal and coder education expertise.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of Health Information Management/Medical Records experience in an academic medical center environment.
- Prior experience as a DRG Coordinator.
- Experience with 3M coding software.
- RHIA or RHIT certification.
Required Skills and Certifications:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Certification through the American Health Information Management Association.
Ideal Candidate:
- Possesses a strong knowledge of hospital information systems.
- Exhibits a high degree of analytical ability.
- Demonstrates proficiency in computer hardware and software applications, including Windows and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Has a demonstrated knowledge of Health Information Management functions, policies, and practices in an electronic environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work in an office setting four days per week and remotely one day per week.
- Must live within the New York City tri-state area. Hybrid work
